Putin Appoints Alexander Darchiev as Ambassador to the US._ISHEJA

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Alexander Darchiev, the director of the North Atlantic Department in Russia's Foreign Ministry, as the country's new ambassador to the United States. A decree to this effect has been signed and published on the official legal information portal.
The decision follows an agreement made during Russia-US talks on February 18 in Saudi Arabia, where both parties agreed to expedite the appointment of ambassadors. Darchiev's appointment was also confirmed after Washington officially notified Moscow following further discussions in Istanbul on February 27. These talks were part of ongoing efforts to normalize relations between Russia and the US, with a focus on restoring diplomatic functions.
Darchiev, 64, is a Moscow State University graduate with a Ph.D. in history. He has served in Russian diplomacy since 1992 and is fluent in English and French. He has spent a decade working at the Russian Embassy in Washington, with assignments from 1997 to 2002 and again from 2005 to 2010. Russian officials, including Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, have all praised Darchiev's expertise and professionalism in US affairs.
